When the gates for the Apple iPad 2 opened online on 25th (1AM), the number of enthusiasts keeping up to order the iPad 2 online were much more than what Apple anticipated. And the system failed. We reported that the online orders for iPad 2 aren’t going through and the Apple store keeps throwing an error.
The workaround ofcourse was there, but it seems that many who left the order process midway are now being contacted by Apple to fullfil their orders. One of our friends on twitter (@tuckerjj) Ian, wrote to us and informed that he was contacted was Apple and they even agreed to try and place his order ahead of the que. He had given up on his ordering online on 25th after 20 failed attempts. Here is his email:
Hi Annkur,
Not many details to add really – was just a quick call from a friendly
chap from Apple this morning (afraid I don’t recall his name or
position, as I was woken up by the call), who explained that they’d
seen I had trouble ordering, that the order (or in fact multiple
orders) had “gone through halfway”, and that if I still wanted it he
could put one of the orders through.
I asked if that would put the order to the front of the queue (or at
least where it should have been had it gone through on the 25th) and
he said they would definitely be requesting this from customer
service, but he couldn’t guarantee it. Because of this I said no,
though I’m having second thoughts now! Unfortunately the number he
called from didn’t show on my phone so there’s no chance to call back.
Still, I guess it’s good news for anyone else that had problems, if
Apple are going through the errors in their transaction logs and
attempting to rectify the error.
Ian
