Vonage Mobile iPhone application, low-cost VoIP service

Vonage Mobile, a new free application for iPhone, Blackberry and iPod touch would allow users to make international calls at half the rates of the regular service providers. Vonage Mobile allows users to make calls over cellular or WiFi network.

Vonage Mobile is a Voice-over IP (VoIP) service that is targeted to the customers using International calling cards or the once who use other VoIP services like Skype. Best part of the application is that the user gets to keep their regular cell phone number and can make calls and receive calls on the same number. No, separate number for Vonage Mobile service needs to be circulated across the contacts.

“When developing Vonage Mobile, we focused on creating a more convenient alternative for customers who use calling cards or Wi-Fi-only applications,” said Mike Tempora, senior vice president of product management for Vonage, in a statement. “Vonage Mobile is easy to get and use and gives customers the best possible calling experience from a trusted provider.”

The application would allow cellular and WiFi based calls to the iPhone users, cellular calls for Blackberry users, while the iPod Touch users can avail their service through a WiFi network. Vonage would be rolling out attractive plans like the Vonage World Plan wherein the user can make unlimited calls to over 60 countries for a monthly fees.

“Our new mobile app is an important step in establishing Vonage as a software technology company that enables high-quality voice and messaging across any device in any location, providing great value over any broadband network,” said Vonage CEO Marc Lefar, in a statement.

The Vonage Mobile application can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store for free. The service plan can be purchased online or through Wall-Mart and Best Buy outlets. The service is currently available for United States, Canada and United Kingdom only.
