iPhone OS version 4 held back till the iSlate is unveiled?

Rumors about the Apple tablet aka the iSlate is as common as sunrise now. We have heard a hell lot about this, and if it doesn’t come out before month end; it would be terribly embarrassing for all the tech journos who are going lengths to speak about the device. It was heard a while back that select iPhone developers are being approached to mod their apps for a higher resolution screen and ultimately all iPhone apps would support the iSlate. This is now being backed by a claim from a ‘prominent app developer’ that they have submitted an updated app for iPhone OS 4.0 to Apple. False Alarm, apparently this latest bit was, an error.

An Apple tablet mockup. Not the real image 😉

It is now being speculated that the iPhone OS v4.0 is ready and being held back until the iSlate goes official. This is done as the OS 4.0 has multiple references to the unannounced tablet. As per iPodNN’s source the iSlate  said to be an ‘iPhone on Steriods’ and the iPhone OS 4.0 would support both the current iPhone platform, iPod touch and the tablets.

I read recently that the iPhone came out of the multitouch technology that Apple was experimenting with for a tablet. Now that, the technology has evolved enough for Apple to make a tablet that matches Steve Jobs vision; the same is being prepared for launch such that it can make the most of the iPhone app store platform. Apple tablet is said to be in full production at the moment with Apple gearing up to release the same with good inventory in hand. Annual shipping estimates are at 10 million units and of course that increases the NAND flash memory requirements for Apple (which as it is consuming a hell lot of Flash memory in its iPods / iPhone).

An Apple event on 26th or 27th Jan is the platform where janta is expecting the Apple tablet to go official. This might well be the platform that would see the Core i5 Macbook Pro go official as well.
