Shortly after, Apple outed the new firmware version 3.1.3, the dev team has several updates that make life a little easier for us. While the previous redsn0w v0.9.2 works for iPhone 2G (jailbreak+unlock), iPhone 3G (jailbreak only) & iPod touch 1G (jailbreak); a slightly modified version that is now available for download works for older iPod touch 2G (newer iPod touch 2G/3G come with a updates bootrom refereed as MC).

For the ones with iPhone 2G / 3G / iTouch 1G, simply use the same old redsnow 0.9.2 and “Just point it at the 3.1.2 iPhone 2G IPSW after doing update or restore to 3.1.3.” Update: You can use redsn0w 0.9.4  (download) or sn0wbreeze aswell. However to unlock iPhone 3G you will first have to try your luck and see if you can downgrade the baseband version.

To unlock the 2G, see the Blackra1n guide here.

For 3G look for ‘Blacksn0w RC2’ on Cydia (will work only if you were able to downgrade the baseband)

Head to the iPhone dev blog to download the newer compilation of redsn0w for older iPod touch 2G.
