Apple going official with iPhone OS 4.0 on 8th April

This is a surprise to us, as much as it is to you. Apple for some strange rather unknown reasons, wants to tell us what the next-gen iPhone OS would bring. Officially titled “sneak peek of the next generation of iPhone OS software” this event comes as close as 5 days from the iPad launch. You can speculate plenty on the reasons for this announcement coming so early, but we sure know that the iPad plays a role here. With the next iPod touch being far away from launch and Apple being in no hurry to release the iPhone 4G sooner than June, the only thing logically prompting to give a sneak peak would be the iPad and developers.
Apple did similar with the iPhone OS 3.0 beta coming early for developers to make sure their apps are compatible and available for prime time. A big USP for the iPhone has been the killer app market and Apple sure wants to leverage it as much as they can. The regular questions on multitasking, multi-touch gestures OS wide, new Maps app, iAd platform etc would remain.
