Apple Overtakes RIM in Global Smartphone Market Share

Here’s one more reason for Steve Jobs to spew venom against RIM in some of his future public appearances. According to a new Strategy Analytics report, Apple has jumped ahead of RIM in the global smartphones market share.
Apple has managed to ship 15.4 million devices during the third quarter of 2010 which is significantly greater than the 12.3 million deices that RIM managed to. The leader of the pack still is Nokia with it shipping over 26.5 million devices during the quarter. Globally, RIM’s smartphones market share also fell by from 19.6 percent 16.1 percent.

Apple on the other hand manged to increase its share by over 1.3 percentage points from 17 percent market share to 18.3 percent.

The news regarding the global domination of Apple over RIM comes close to a recent report stating that Apple had upstaged RIM in the US too – where RIM traditionally had a stronghold.
