Apple Notifies Developers That Retina Display Screenshots Are A Must Now

Apple issued a notice to all its iOS developers that providing retina display compatible screenshots is provided along with new app submission or app update submission. Apple had been resizing the screenshots from 480×320 resolution supported by older devices to 960×640 retina display resolution supported by iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G when needed.

Required iPhone & iPod touch Screenshot Upgrade for Retina Display
“When you create or update your apps in iTunes Connect, you must upload screenshots that are high-resolution. We require your screenshots as high-resolution images so that your app is optimized for the Retina display.

The requirements for high-resolution images are 960 x 640, 960 x 600, 640 x 960, or 640 x 920 pixels. Images must be at least 72 dpi, in the RGB color space, and the file must be .jpeg, .jpg, .tif, .tiff, or .png. You can update your screenshot files at any time in iTunes Connect.”

Apple issued the above statement to all iOS developers this tuesday.

This might be a sign of things to come, apple might be soon phasing out 3GS, which is currently the only iPhone without a retina display. We have been witnessing many applications as well which are compatible only with the latest version of iOS. All these might quite logically add up to phasing out of iPhone 3GS soon. But nevertheless, iPhone 3GS is still a hot selling phone in the market beating many other competitors as well!
