Apple is known to launch a new smartphone every fall. This year we await the iPhone 6. As expected, there have N number of rumours about the new iPhone. Last year Apple brought a new line of plastic body iPhones called the iPhone 5c. We aren’t sure if that lineup will continue, but for the flagship 5s, the expected list of upgrades is huge.
Below is a list of features, we expect the iPhone 6 to have –
Bigger Screen
Phones displays are getting bigger by the day. Today, the average screen size of a phone would be in the range of 4.7-5 inches. Apple has definitely been losing out on customers due to the small screen size of previous generation iPhones. Hence, most likely the iPhone 6 will have a bigger screen. Rumours say that Apple will launch two variant – a 4.7 inches and a 5.5 inches iPhone. This will allow the iPhone 6 to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S5 (5.1 inches), Sony Xperia Z2 (5.2 inches), LG G3 (5.5 inches) and Nokia Lumia 930 Windows 8 (5 inches).
More storage
Apple will most probably ditch the 16GB models for both the variants of the new iPhone. 32GB will be the standard model. But the 5.5 inches variant will also be available with 128GB storage. This is quite surprising as Apple is known to sell 8GB models of their previous phones. Though there is also a thought that with increasing iCloud integration, Apple wants to limit the hardware storage of its products.
Curved body
Since the iPhone 6 will have a bigger screen size, it may difficult to use with one hand. Reportedly, Apple will give the iPhone 6 more curves as compared to the iPhone 4 and 5. This maybe very similar to what Motorola has done with the Moto X. Even the though the Moto X has a much larger screen than the 5s, it is easy to use it with one hand. We still wonder how Apple fans will justify such large screens!
Better Camera
iPhones are known to click very good images. Even today, the 4s camera with 5MP is better than many 8/13MP cameras. The iPhone 6 is expected to have a better camera with more megapixels and will also have superior image stabilisation so that one can take better pictures while on to move. Given the new camera APIs and controls in iOS 8, Apple itself is expected to do a major upgrade of their camera hardware. Do remember that Apple has stuck with a 8MP sensor since the iPhone 4S (that’s 3 years), the upgrade better be good 🙂
Faster processor
Apple’s iPhone 6 will reportedly incorporate a 20-nanometer A8 chip from TSMC, which will be both smaller and more energy efficient. This is quite a big change as the 5S had the 64-bit A7 28-nanometer chip manufactured by Samsung. The A8 chip is rumoured to include both a quad-core 64 bit processor and quad-core graphics. The next iPhone may include temperature and humidity sensors as well, which would likely be built into the A8’s next-generation coprocessor.
So, here are the most definite features that the next iPhone will have. But knowing Apple, one can easily can expect a surprise or two.
