Apple iPhone 8, 8 Plus are Official with Powerful Chipset, Augmented Reality and Wireless Charging

Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus smartphones were unveiled at the newly built Steve Jobs Theater, San Francisco, California on Tuesday. These smartphones have respectively arrived as the successor to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Here is all the information on the iPhone 8 duo along with their Indian pricing and release date.

Design and Display

The iPhone 8 measures 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm and it weighs 148 grams. On the other side, the dimensions of the iPhone 8 Plus are 158.4 x 78.1 x 7.5 mm and it weighs 202 grams. Both the iPhones feature IP67 certified dust and water-resistant glass bodies that are flanked with 7000-series aluminum frame. These handsets come in color choices like Silver, Space Grey and the all new Gold option. Apple claims that it has used the most durable glass ever in a smartphone.

The 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen of the iPhone 8 supports a resolution of 750 x 1,334 pixels. The iPhone 8 Plus features a 5.5-inch full HD IPS LCD display. The Retina displays of these iPhones are protected by ion-strengthened glass and oleophobic coating. The True Tone technology offers better viewing experience as it adjusts the brightness of the screen automatically according to the light of the surroundings. The screens of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus offer features such as wide color gamut and 3D Touch.

Performance, Augmented Reality and Wireless Charging

The six-core Apple A11 Bionic chipset that powers the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus is the most powerful chipset from the company. Compared to Apple 10 Fusion that powers the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the A11’s two high performance cores and the remaining four energy efficient cores respectively offer 25 percent and 70 percent faster performance.
The dual cameras present on iPhone 8 Plus are enabled with gyroscopes and accelerometers to deliver augmented reality (AR) experience like motion tracking and scene recognition. The stereo speaker system of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus deliver 25 percent louder audio output than predecessor phones. Like the iPhone 7 duo, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus do not feature 3.5mm audio jack but allow headphone connectivity through their Lightning port. The Touch ID sensor is embedded under the home button on the iPhone 8 duo.

The exact configuration of the batteries that power the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus was not disclosed at the launch event. However, the glass bodies of the iPhone 8 duo have allowed Apple to add Qi standard wireless charging support for the first time on iPhones. Also, the Cupertino company has for the first time introduced fast charging on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. With fast charging, both iPhones can be charged up to 50 percent in 30 minutes.

Cameras

The iPhone 8 features a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture that is enabled with quad-LED flash and OIS. The iPhone 8 Plus has two camera sensors on its rear panel that includes a f/1.8 aperture and OIS enabled 12-megapixel sensor and a f/2.4 aperture 12-megapixel sensor. It is also equipped with quad-LED flash and optical zoom. With Portrait Lighting feature, the users of iPhone 8 Plus can capture topnotch portrait shots with studio lighting effects.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus have the same f/2.2 aperture 7-megapixel selfie snapper that are enabled Retina flash and full HD video recording. Both smartphones can shoot 4K, 1080p and 720p videos and even slow motion 1080p videos at 120 fps or 240 fps. The support for HEIF and HEVC on both phones compress the photos and videos that are shot on the iPhone 8 duo so that they do not use consume huge storage space.

Pricing and Availability

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus pre-orders will begin in the U.S., the U.K and 27 other countries on 15th September and their shipments will start on 22nd September. India is slotted in the second batch of countries to get the iPhone 8 duo from 29th September.
The 64 GB and 256 GB iPhone 8 are respectively priced at $699 and $849 in the U.S. In India, these variants are priced at Rs. 64,000 and Rs. 77,000, respectively.
The 64 GB and 256 GB iPhone 8 Plus will carry respective price tags of $799 and $949 in the U.S. The 64 GB iPhone 8 Plus would be available in India for Rs, 73,000 and its 256 GB variant can be availed for RS. 86,000.
