An iOS Hacker Finds Loophole To Downgrade A5 Devices From iOS 5.1 To iOS 5.0.1

Well, there’s a good news for people who have saved SHSH Blobs and looking forward to downgrade their iDevices. A popular iOS hacker, iH8sn0w has told us over twitter that he has been successful in finding a loophole in A5 devices where you can downgrade from a higher firmware to lower firmware. Interestingly, he was able to downgrade his iPhone 4S from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1 with the SHSH Blobs that were saved earlier.

Till now, if you have upgraded your iDevice to iOS 5.1 from iOS 5.0.1, there’s no way for you to revert back. Also, if you are experiencing an issue with your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, you can’t restore to the same firmware, given that a newer one is available for download. However, MuscleNerd, the member of DevTeam informed previously that he has been working on a method to save APTickets/SHSH Blobs and downgrade which might be implemented in future. That’s the reason we were advised to save SHSH Blobs for iOS 5.0/iOS 5.0.1 even if they are not useful at the moment.

iH8sn0w also added that the loophole would also work on A5X devices. Once we have any newer firmware released for the iPad 3, users would be able to downgrade to iOS 5.1 once again. Now, one thing which is left for now is an ETA for the method to become public. Though the hacker has not informed about anything on the work involved to implement the loophole in existing tools. But we hope that it would make its way only after the release of JailBreak for iOS 5.1, so that most of the people are benefited from it.
