iPhone 7S Reportedly Coming with All-Glass Design, Wireless Charging But Unlikely to Feature 3.5mm Audio Jack

The rumor mill has been buzzing with plenty of information on the iPhone 8. However, Apple is rumored to launch not just the iPhone 8 in the coming month but also successors for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus from last year. Speculations have it that Apple would be also debuting the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus alongside the iPhone 8.
A German blog that is based on Apple products have revealed that the iPhone 7S would be slightly thicker than the iPhone 7 based on the sketches revealed by a case maker. The reason behind it is that the iPhone 7S would be equipped with a glass chassis instead of an aluminum body. The case maker claims that it has received the iPhone 7S schematics from Foxconn insiders.
The Apple iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S that were respectively released in 2010 and 2011 came with all-glass design. Since then all the iPhones have been sporting metal unibody design. The iPhone 7 has a thickness of 7.1mm whereas the all-glass iPhone 7S is expected to have a thickness of 7.21mm.

The camera bump on the iPhone 7 increases its thickness to 8.18mm. However, with the camera bump, the iPhone 7S is expected to measure 7.92mm in thickness. Since these iPhones have very similar thickness, it is likely that the iPhone 7S won’t be thick enough to bring the 3.5mm audio jack.
The iPhone 7 measures 138.31 x 67.1mm and the schematics revealed by the case maker suggests that the iPhone 7S would be measuring 138.44 x 67.27mm. This shows that there will be negligible difference when it comes to height and width of the iPhone 7S as compared to its predecessor. Since the dimensions of the iPhone 7S is expected to similar with its predecessor, the cases of iPhone 7 may also fit the iPhone 7S with slight stretching.
The inclusion of the glass panel on the iPhone 7S as well as its larger sibling, the iPhone 7S Plus suggests that these smartphones may carry support for wireless charging. The upcoming iPhone 7S and 7S Plus are rumored to respectively come with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch LCD panels whereas the iPhone 8 is pegged to feature an OLED screen.
The iPhone 8 that will be arriving in celebration of the tenth anniversary of iPhones is expected to be a special edition iPhone that will be available in limited quantities. Apple is rumored to be debut the LTE enabled Apple Watch 3 alongside the new iPhones in the coming month. It is also speculated to be working on iPhone SE 2 that is expected to unleash in Q1 2018.
