Will Siri Come to the iPhone 4 Officially?

Siri the personal voice assistant on the iPhone 4S is a feature that has captured the imagination of the iOS device users with the jailbreak community working day in and day out to get the feature ported on the other devices. But finally it seems that Apple might finally make it possible for one to port Siri to other iOS devices legally with the changes it has made with the iOS version 5.0.1.

Though its not clearly known for now, there are reports doing the rounds suggesting that Apple has updated iOS 5.0.1 to 9A406 which would offer one open access to the once encrypted system files. According to a well-known jailbreak hacker MuscleNerd, this is the first time the main filesystems are obtainable due to non-encrypted ram disks.

Still, I must add that Siri requires communication with the Apple servers in order to understand and execute the voice commands and hence it seems difficult as to how the feature can be ported functionally to other iOS devices and that too legally.

Previously we have seen examples of how hackers like Applidium had managed to hack Apple servers and port the feature on to other platforms like Android. It will be interesting to see if Apple would actually make Siri legally available on other iOS devices. We feel that Apple would make Siri available for other iOS devices maybe only after they have launched the iPhone 5, but to begin with, they made life for hackers a little easy. Coincidence or deliberate?
